Lochranza Campsite - Our Team

Kathy and Nigel were kayaking around Scotland on a sabbatical from their careers as an English teacher and an aircraft engineer in 2009 when they had the opportunity to buy Lochranza Caravan and Campsite. It was an instant yes and they have never looked back. Kathy works behind the scenes, managing marketing and keeping the campsite facilities and gardens looking spick and span. Nigel can usually be found mending, repairing and building things – there’s always something to do when you run a campsite.

Old friends of Kathy and Nigel, our long-term wardens are Carol and Alan. They first came to Lochranza to do holiday cover on the campsite, but loved it so much that when they retired from their respective careers as a nurse and an architect, they made the move permanent. They love meeting and greeting our guests, are always on hand for any questions or problems, and offer support and help whenever they can.

Kathy’s daughter Emily is involved across the business, from website management and marketing to office duties and facilities cleaning. She comes from a background in communications and travel writing in Switzerland but couldn’t resist the allure of the slow life on Arran when the opportunity presented itself in 2022. After falling in love with Arran 30 years ago, Jen and Jon first camped on Lochranza Caravan and Campsite in 2019. They got chatting to us and when they retired at the end of that year (Jon was a headteacher and Jen a university nursing lecturer), decided they'd like to volunteer as seasonal wardens. They're back for 2023 with their two miniature schnauzers Gabe and Skye, and their motorhome Margo. When they're not on duty, you'll find them exploring the island's beaches, practising golf on Lochranza Golf Course and playing guitar (Jon) outside Margo.
